Exhibition dates: July 8 August 8, 2009
Second Saturday Reception July 11, 2009 from 6-9pm
JAYJAY is pleased to announce the upcoming introductory exhibition Fresh Young Things: New Talent from Northern California. The inspiration for this exhibit is the fine and prophetic work being produced in the graduate programs at several Northern California schools and JAYJAYs desire to share their triumphs with the community at large. These artists are recent MFA and MA recipients of studio art programs from San Francisco Art Institute, Stanford University, California College of the Arts, Mills College, University of California at Davis, and CSU Sacramento, producing work in various mediums including video, installation, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. This exhibition promises to offer a glimpse into future trends through the scholarly exploration of these emerging artists, with the added bonus of its co-curator, Kristina Schlosser, a Fresh Young Thing in her own right as a graduate student in Art History at the University of California, Davis.
The eleven artists included are Erin Billingsley, CSU Sacramento, Colby Claycomb, San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), Julia Elsas, UC Davis, Klea McKenna, California College of the Arts, John K. Melvin, SFAI, Jhinryung Oh, SFAI, James Pakola, SFAI, Steuart Pittman, Mills College, Kazumi Shiho, Stanford University, Sara Wanie, SFAI, and David Yun, SFAI.
